Land Referencing Services LLP (LRS), a company based at the University of Wolverhampton’s Telford Campus, have been utilising the STEP placement scheme since 2012. They have recruited graduates that have helped the company in areas such as Land Referencing/GIS Research, Project Management and Marketing.
The University of Wolverhampton and LRS work closely together to ensure the most suitable graduates are hired. James McGlone, Employer Liaison Officer, takes time to understand businesses and what employers want from the scheme and future employees.
LRS receive matching candidates from the university based on their employee requirements - this reduces time and costs whilst maintaining the efficiency of the recruitment process.
LRS commented, “The STEP programme has allowed us to recruit high-quality, qualified staff in England and Scotland that we wouldn’t have been exposed to and are helping us expand our professional workforce.”
The most recent graduate to join LRS, Harriet Davies, is now the tenth graduate the company has hired on this scheme in the last two years.
Harriet heard about this opportunity at LRS through the STEP scheme. Harriet commented, “It gives graduates more opportunities to gain experience in industries they may not be familiar with. I am finding that the skills I have learnt throughout my degree in Journalism are being utilised within my employment.” Harriet feels she has really benefited from the scheme.
The STEP programme is rewarding for graduates as it is introduces them into the workplace; they can develop skills, meet new people and gain experience.
Another advantage of the STEP scheme is the location. Harriet said: “Having the opportunity to complete a graduate placement scheme whilst living at home is ideal for me - I wouldn’t have been able to do this without STEP as there are not many opportunities similar to this locally.”
LRS currently have two graduates with STEP. “The scheme is a perfect way for us to be introduced to a pool of skilled individuals, sometimes at very short notice,” Martin Glover (Director) commented: “we would recommend the programme to any organisation looking to gain access to professional and qualified graduates.”
