Access Information

The Arena Theatre is a unique venue in the heart of Wolverhampton providing innovative theatre experiences for everyone. Our venue is completely accessible and staff are committed to going the extra mile to ensure an enjoyable and comfortable experience.

From a fully accessible building to signed and audio-described performances, we are dedicated to making our venue and events accessible for everyone.

Wheelchair Access

We are accessible from the front entrance, and our foyer area and balcony seats in the main auditorium are all on the same level. There is a lift down to our Tilstone Studio space and also to accessible seating on Row A (pictured below).

There is also a ramp down to our seminar room. However, some motorised wheelchairs may be too large to fit through the door.

If you have further questions, our Box Office staff will be more than happy to help. Please give ue a call on: 01902 321 321.

MobileConnect

MobileConnect is an innovative system for accessible hearing in Theatre. MobileConnect streams audio content via WiFi live and in great quality directly on the personal smartphone. This means that our patorns benefit from hearing audio description of the show at designated Audio Described performances.

There are iPods available from the Box Office with the MobileConnect app installed. If you wish to download the app for your own personal use, please follow this link.

If you would like to book one of our iPods, please call the Box Office (01902 321 321).

To find out which shows are audio described, please visit our access shows page.

Sennheiser Infra-Red System

We still offer our previous hearing loop system should anyone wish to use this. The system does work via Infra-red signal, therefore there may be some limitations on its range. Should you have any questions about whether this system is suitable for you and where you are seated in the auditorium please email our Access and Inclusion Officer Kirsty Povey: K.Povey2@wlv.ac.uk

The Infra-red system has two types of headsets. For patrons without hearing aids we have the stethoscope unit. For patrons with hearing aids we have the necklace system.

BSL Interpreted Events

Some of our performances and events are British Sign Language Interpreted. This is where a translator will stand to the side of the stage and interpret the characters' dialogue for audience members.

Please let our Box Office team know at the time of booking your ticket if you require this service so we can assign you the best possible seat to see the interpreter.

To find out which performances are BSL interpreted, visit our access shows page

Relaxed Performances

Relaxed performances are designed for everyone. They do differ from our standard performances, with raised house lights and monitored volume settings. You can also leave the auditorium at any time to take a break, with designated quiet spaces available around the venue.

If you require further information regarding relaxed performances at the theatre, please e-mail our Access and Inclusion Officer Kirsty Povey: K.Povey2@wlv.ac.uk.

Upcoming relaxed performances will be advertised on our access shows page.

Companions

The Arena Theatre offers free tickets to anyone accompanying a patron with access requirements.

These tickets are not available online. You will need to call our Box Office (01902 321 321) in order to place an order with a companion concession ticket.

Assistance Dogs

The Arena Theatre is very welcoming to assistance dogs. It is your discretion as to whether the dog accompanies you in the auditorium during the event.

We are happy to provide bowls of water if you wish for the assistance dog to remain with Box Office staff.
