Professor Mehdi is the first developer to implement Artificial Intelligent Techniques into Microprocessor Systems. He is also the first developer who created the first Intelligent Multimedia Applications for the interactive production of models to achieve high precision of machine tools.

Prof Mehdi is the founder and the general conference chair of the annual Game-On Conference (known as CGAMES) on Intelligent Games and Simulation, and International Conference on Computer Games: Artificial Intelligence, Design and Education (CGAIDE), which was sponsored by Microsoft, UK.  He is also the Chief Editor of the first International Journal on Intelligent Games and Simulation (IJIGS). Professor Mehdi is a co-founder and member of steering committee of European Network of Excellence in Games (PROMETO-CG), which aims to link together digital media developers, education, and the entertainments industry under FP6 European framework which includes twelve European countries with 220 expert partners.

He has been an invited speaker on intelligent games and computer simulation & modelling at home and abroad and has published more than 130 papers in international conferences and journals and edited 16 conference proceedings and 6 volumes of international journals in computer games.  Furthermore, his work has gained an excellent international reputation and recognition where he has served as a keynote speaker for IMAGINA international festival for digital image, ESM International Conference, IEEE chapters, peer reviewer for IEEE transaction and Kentucky Science and Engineering Foundation, USA. He is also a partner of the Canadian research project SAGE project and has initiated a Network of Excellence (NoE) under FP6 framework in computer games. He has successfully supervised more than 10 PhD researchers.
