I graduated from the University of Birmingham with a Psychology (Honours) Degree in 2008.  Since then, I have concentrated my professional and academic efforts within counselling and psychological therapeutic interventions.  My background is primarily in clinical practice.  I have been engaged in integrative therapeutic work in the third/Charity sector and NHS, primary and secondary educational settings, and University mental health support.  I have areas of expertise in applying humanistic and psychodynamic psychological theory to inform my individual practice with children, adolescents, young people and systemic work with families.

Research interests

I completed my Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology in 2017.  My research interests have developed in the areas of: empirical understanding of young peoples’ decision-making and help-seeking choices for mental health support, personal agency in adolescence, self-efficacy for psychological wellbeing and the relationships between language and mental health.  I am continuing to submit research proposals and seek funding to support qualitative research investigations into adolescent agency in seeking and receiving mental health support and psychological intervention.  Additionally, I have academic interests in critical psychopathology, critical psychology and the social construction and understanding of power relations in therapeutic settings.
