School Direct (Tuition PGCE Route) Entry Criteria 

 

Secondary

Primary

Bachelor Degree

Applicants must:

 

iv) Have a good Bachelor honours degree, (ideally 2:1 or above) or,

v) A degree of equivalent level from outside the UK.

vi) Be able to demonstrate that 50% of modules studied were in the subject you wish to teach.

iv) Have a good Bachelor honours degree, (ideally 2:1 or above) or,

v) A degree of equivalent level from outside the UK.

vi) The degree must be in a National Curriculum subject.

Applicants with a degree gained outside the UK, must gain validation from NARIC, to demonstrate that qualifications are equivalent to the UK standard. (www.naric.org.uk)

GCSE requirements

GCSE grade ‘4’ (previously grade C) or above in English language and Mathematics.  A grade ‘4’ (previously grade C) or above in Science is also required for Sciences and Psychology.

GCSE grade ‘4’ (previously C) or above in English, Mathematics, and Science.

Please note – You will be required to provide evidence of your original GCSE qualifications.

Professional Skills Tests

All applicants will be required to have passed the Numeracy and Literacy Professional Skills tests before commencing an ITT programme. Ideally candidates will have passed these tests before interview.  If not, any offers made will be conditional on passing these tests (in most cases within 8 weeks of accepting a place).

Experience

Secondary applicants will ideally have some Secondary school experience.

Primary applicants will have:

iv) 40 days recent experience in a UK primary school, with exposure to 20 days in Key Stage One and Key Stage Two and the day-to-day working of primary teachers.

v) explicit evidence of interaction with primary age children.

vi) This experience must be in a mainstream school.

Fitness to Teach

All candidates called to interview will be required to complete a medical fitness declaration.  An enhanced disclosure certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service will also be required before commencing the programme.
