About

Sam joined the University in 2009 and is Associate Dean (Enterprise, Knowledge Transfer and Research) Faculty of Arts and Head of the Wolverhampton School of Art (Est. 1851), she was previously a television industry producer for 16 years. Sam has created and coordinated numerous productions for Britain's largest commercial TV channel, ITV Plc and rose to the position of Director of Creative Services; a role that involved coordinating projects for 6 regional studios across the UK. As Creative Director at ITV, Sam's team won a number of prestigious awards including PROMAX UK, PROMAX USA and RTS awards. Sam graduated from Central St. Martins with a BA Hons Fine Art and won a scholarship to study film at Syracuse University USA. Sam has run her own media company; formed in 2004 and still running with contracts including BBC, Channel 4, ITV Plc, FC Bayern Munich.

Most recently, she was Principal Investigator and creative director for the successful Leonardo da Vinci Development of Innovation "SignMedia" - an online learning tool for Deaf Media Professionals with a complimentary Transfer of Innovation "SignMedia SMART" project awarded in 2014. Sam is Co-PI and Creative Director on a number of other EU and UK funded projects. 

Research interests

The development and delivery of a number of EU projects as PI and Co-PI including SignMedia, Sign Media SMART, LiMe, App-t valued at over 2 million Euros and leading consortia across Europe.

The SignMedia project – to develop an interactive learning resource that teaches elements of written English through sign language – was a collaboration with Klagenfurt University, Austria, the University of Turin, Italy, and Mutt & Jeff Pictures Ltd, UK. This has led to SignMedia SMART to transfer the glossary elements of the project onto mobile platforms with partners from Klagenfurt University, Austria, Alba Co-operative, Italy, ELSC, Sweden, Bellyful Ltd, UK, Mutt and Jeff Pictures Ltd, UK.

The current App.t project, in collaboration with Siawns Teg Limited, UK, Vsl GALVOCIUS, Lithuania, Volkshochschule im Landkreis Cham e.V, Germany, and FM Consulting s.r.o, Czech Republic, is funded by Erasmus+ Strategic Partnerships. It aims to create an app to support target groups who are more likely to be unemployed in the current EU economy, and their trainers, with interactive training content focussing on developing business start-up skills based on the principles of social enterprise.

  • PhD Professional Management commencing 2016, pending confirmation.

  • Currently working with a number of SME's across consortia for project delivery and development (2009 - present),
  • Director of Creative Services at ITV PLC (1987 - 2004),
  • Managing Director, Independent Production Company (2004 - 2009).
