About

After graduating from Norwich School of Art and Design in 1998, Dan worked with photographers in and around London for two years before settling in Wolverhampton in 2000. Brought in as a Technician, Dan has worked at the heart of the Photography department for over fifteen years, supporting students, and ensuring the department and course reflect professional practice found in the industry. After studying for his C&G Teaching Certificate, Dan broke into the academic field teaching C&G Photography at South Staffordshire College. Now a Technical Demonstrator at the University, Dan takes on the role of teaching students from across the university techniques and processes to help them become informed and questioning professional photographers.

Dan was awarded the Dr Nicholas Musgrove award for Exceptional Support Staff in the 2015 Student's Union Awards.

Research interests

As much of his day is spent inside without any natural daylight (yes 15 years!). Dan's research often takes him outside into the natural world, where he uses strobe flash to build 'outdoor' studios for portrait, action, and landscape photography.

Building on greater access and participation for students, Dan has developed a phone app; The Photographers Friend, which allows students to access important information, receive notifications, and email academic contacts at the swipe of a finger.
