Peter is a part-time (0.5) Lecturer. The rest of his time is spent as a writer, director and performer.

Areas of expertise is writing for stage (including opera librettos), screen and radio; directing large scale performance; popular theatre including stand up comedy and street performance.

Research interests

The social and economic impact of theatre on communities.

Qualifications

  • BA Combined Honours, English and Drama (University of Exeter),
  • PGCE, St Katherine's College.

Experience in industry

Peter has worked as a writer, director and performer since 1980.  His work has been produced by companies such as: Birmingham Rep, Shared Experience, Welsh National Opera, Absolute Theatre, BBC Radio 4, Channel 4 Television, The Resurrectionists, The Theatre Royal Northampton.  He was Artistic Director of  Pentabus Theatre from 1985 -1989 and has worked as a director in Portugal, South Africa, Korea and Jamaica.

Experience in industry. 35 years as a writer director and performer. This includes 4 years as Artistic Director of Pentabus Theatre Company; plays and librettos commissioned and produced by: Birmingham Rep, The Welsh National Opera, Solent People's Theatre, Shared Experience, Isango Ensemble (South Africa) O Teatro Montemuro (Portugal) Absolute Theatre and Talking Birds. Current work includes : Caidos do Ceu a play for open air venues touring Portugal from 5th June (dramaturg and director) The Portland Cantata with Absolute Theatre Company (writer) and The Dorchester Community Play (director).

Current and Future Projects

  • Consider the Lilies - the libretto for a cantata based on the experiences of victims of torture commissioned by The Helen Bamber Foundation. Performed in St Martin-In-The-Field, London November 2010.
  • Pertencia - a dual language co -production with O Teatro Montemuro and Foursight Theatre. Touring Portugal and UK 2010-2011 (script writer).
  • Echoes - a promenade immersion theatre piece with Gazebo TiE company in Bilston Town Hall  (Summer 2011).
  • Eleanor Moor -the libretto for a full length opera commissioned by the Wedmore Opera Company (2012).
  • The Wrecker’s Daughter - Script and lyrics for a music theatre piece set in an abandoned quarry on Portland.
