In March 2016 students on the Music Technology and Popular Music degree courses were treated to a masterclass taken by record producer and songwriter Gary Bromham. Gary is a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Wolverhampton.
Gary has worked as a producer, engineer and songwriter since the 1980s. He has worked with a wide range of artists such as Bjork, Andrew Ridgeley and George Michael, Sheryl Crow, U2, Tina Arena, Bow Wow Wow, Robbie Neville, Eddie Money, Tears For Fears, Go West, Dannii Minogue, Nylon, Graham Coxon, Editors, and The Maccabees. In addition, Gary was signed by EMI in the 1990s with his band 'The Big Blue'.
Gary explained his approach to record production in the current industry climate, and students were able to take part in a discussion on the many ways in which the record industry has changed over the last twenty years. Gary then presented his radio mix of a Sheryl Crow track, taking students through the process of creating a mix designed for chart success.
Student feedback on the session was overwhelmingly positive: "I thought it was excellent...thanks to Gary for sharing his knowledge. Great lecture!!!" - "absolutely loved the talk today!"
