About

Gabriela joined the then Polytechnic of Wolverhampton as a German lecturer in 1987 after two years teaching German at University College Galway, Ireland, through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) programme and a variety of teaching posts in England. A spell in the European Literature subject area led eventually to joining the English Department in 2009, since when she has been able to pursue her long-standing passion for British children’s literature and speculative fiction in both teaching and research.

She currently co-ordinates a research cluster, Research in Cultures and Humanities (RiCH), organising seminar series and public lectures, and she also works as a Senior Academic Counsellor.

Research interests

Her research interests have moved from East German women writers and German-language children’s literature to British children’s literature and speculative fiction, in particular the use of myth in literature.
