University lecturer hosts Home Office video

The video, part of the ‘True Vision’ initiative created to provide information about Hate Crime and how to report it to the authorities, has been aimed at British Sign Language (BSL) users within the deaf community.

David Wolfe Rose, Course Leader in Deaf Studies at the University, was asked by Police to be the in-vision interpreter for the video. He guides BSL users through the 19 minute tutorial into reporting hate crime online.

David Wolfe Rose, who is also the Chairman of the Telford and Wrekin Deaf Club, said: “I was very pleased to be asked by the police to front this video and to help tackle everyday issues many people simply aren’t aware of.

“Hate crime against members of the deaf community is sadly very prevalent, as I myself have witnessed, so this initiative can only be a good thing.

“I’m extremely hopeful that this venture will lead to more accessible programmes for deaf people in the future and go some way to bridging the gap between the Police and the deaf community in this country.”

The video is free to download and share, so long as it remains intact, is not used for commercial gain and is used to raise awareness of hate crime.

‘True Vision’ is a Police funded web site designed to provide the general public with information about Hate Crime.
