Clearing lines open early for "beat the rush" day

12/08/2013

While A-level results will not be made available until Thursday, August 15, some pupils studying BTEC or Access courses will already have their grades before then.

As a result, the University is throwing open its Clearing hotline early this week to offer those students the opportunity to beat the rush and secure their places.

The phone line – on 0800 953 3222 – will be open from 3pm to 5pm today (Monday, August 12) and from 9am to 5pm tomorrow (Tuesday, August 13) operated by staff who will help prospective students find a place on the right course for them.

Before calling, students should make sure they have their UCAS Personal ID (if applicable); full details of their academic qualifications; and full address, contact telephone number, email address and date of birth.

The University’s advice centre - The Gateway@The George – is also specially extending its opening hours tomorrow. (Tuesday, August 13)

A dedicated Clearing session will be held at the City Campus venue from 2pm to 7pm.

On Thursday, August 15, as A-level results are released, the Clearing hotline will re-open, from 7am to 7pm and The Gateway@The George will hold another Clearing session from 2pm to 7pm.

Paul Travill, Academic Registrar, said: “The Clearing hotline is always very busy come A-level results day, so we would encourage anyone who already has details of their results to ring us, or call in to the Gateway, in advance.

"Last year we admitted about 500 students via Clearing and we expect to have a similar number of places available this year.

"Many students apply to the university for the first time during Clearing and we've been pleased to have been allocated additional places this year to enable us to continue to make offers.”
