Centre for University research established

28/08/2013

The Research Hub, located in the University’s Harrison Learning Centre, has been formed as part of the University’s commitment to developing and implementing applied research.

The Hub will bring together a newly formed Research Policy Unit, a Project Support Office, activities that provide training and support for postgraduate research students and the Research Librarians.

The facility is also designed to provide support for researchers, an environment for mentoring and an enhanced research area for student’s private study.

Speaking about the new facility and the emphasis on research at the University, Professor John Darling, Dean of Research, said: “The Research Hub is a fantastic resource for both staff and students alike and really underlines our commitment in this area.

“The Hub is our way of stressing that research is at the heart of everything we do. Here at the University we want to continue creating world class research and we’re very proud that we have an excellent reputation for doing so.”

The University is already recognised for some of its cutting edge research.

This includes being the first in the world to uncover one of the processes in the body that can cause type 2 diabetes, developing Europe's first metal laser sintering machine, providing breakthrough research into brain tumours and producing world-leading analysis of web content and traffic.
