Survey shows improving picture

28/09/2012

The University of Wolverhampton is among the top rated in the country for the quality of its learning resources, according to a national survey of students.

The eighth National Student Survey (NSS) asks students all over the country what they think about their University and the services it provides.

The responses show that Wolverhampton received a score of 85 per cent for the quality of its learning resources, which includes IT and library facilities. This compares to a national average of 82 per cent.

In six other areas of the survey the University improved on their scores from last year. These look at the quality of teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management and personal development.

Overall satisfaction remained high at the University, with an average score of 80 per cent, a three per cent increase compared to last year.

Jane Nelson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Student Recruitment, said: “These results show that the University is moving in the right direction and continuing to improve the experience for our students.

“What makes it all the more important is that these ratings are provided directly by students themselves so it really helps us establish what they think and in what areas we need to make improvements.

“We have made further enhancements this summer to our Students’ Union and social spaces and this builds upon previous investment in our learning and teaching spaces across the University.”

The survey highlights a number of high-scoring subject areas with high overall satisfaction rates.

These include animation, biochemistry, civil engineering, maths, business, media and communications, music performance, primary education with European language, children’s nursing and electronics and communications engineering.

The NSS is an annual census of students in the final year of a course leading to undergraduate credits or qualifications across the UK.
