Students tune up for special performance

07/03/2012

Music students at the University of Wolverhampton are tuning up for a special performance alongside an acclaimed military band.

The University’s Wind Band has been given the opportunity to rehearse with the Band of the West Midlands Fire Service (BWMFS) in the new Performance Hub at the Walsall Campus.

The School of Sport, Performing Arts and Leisure students will work under BWMFS Conductor and former Royal Marine Patrick Ryan on 10 and 11 March, 2012.

In addition Music Technology students from the University will have the opportunity to record the band using the latest in new recording technology in the multi-million pound building, which opened in September.

Organiser and University of Wolverhampton Wind Band Director, Nigel Beer, said: “We are delighted to have such a highly acclaimed military band coming to the University to share their expertise with our students.

“The benefits to the students will be the ability to sit next to accomplished players from an elite ensemble, and to be conducted by a highly respected ex-royal Marines bandmaster.

“We are hoping to present a concert where the bands will perform simultaneously at the end, forming a joint band of more than 50 performers, which would be a great occasion.”
