New agreement signed between University and Wolves

The University is collaborating with Wolves on the development of a number of joint activities, including volunteering opportunities for students, guest lectures, research and staff development opportunities.

A Memorandum of Collaboration was signed by University of Wolverhampton Vice-Chancellor, Professor Geoff Layer, and Wolves Chairman, Steve Morgan OBE, who received an honorary degree from the University last year.

Professor Layer said: “The University has a strong relationship with our neighbours at Wolves, and both organisations play a major role in the economic and social life of the city and wider region. This agreement enables us to pursue new avenues to develop our partnership through exciting opportunities for students and graduates, an annual guest lecture and also research activity. We look forward to working together on initiatives that will not only benefit the University and the football club, but also the local community.”

Steve Morgan said: “We are delighted to have signed this new agreement with the University of Wolverhampton. The football club is proud of its record in supporting the local community through our Community Trust Programme and we look forward to involving students in this important work. The agreement also presents an exciting opportunity for our staff to increase their knowledge and experience through collaborative work and professional development.”

The agreement was signed at an event to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the University of Wolverhampton Business School, held at the Molineux Stadium on Thursday, 6 October 2011, at which Steve Morgan was the guest speaker.

Activities between the partners are set to include involving University students in the successful Wolves Community Trust Programme, the football club’s official charity, through the University’s Active Volunteers scheme.

Opportunities for internships for students will be identified and a Professional Development Programme for Football Club staff developed.

Graduates will benefit through the potential development of graduate enterprise opportunities and the Morgan Foundation Entrepreneur Awards.

The partners will also work together to identify sports and health related collaborative research opportunities for University research staff.

Another plan is to hold an annual guest lecture by key Wolves staff at the University.

Steve Morgan received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters from the University in September 2010 in recognition of his significant services to the home building industry and his entrepreneurial flair and passion for sport and leisure.
