Visit to strengthen partnerships

Senior staff from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) will be visiting Wolverhampton on Friday (Sep 25)

They will be shown the latest technology used by the University, including virtual reality equipment, as well as having the opportunity to find out about research and working with businesses.

The three delegates will also meet senior University staff to discuss possible ways of working together in the future.

The University has been shortlisted for an IIT mentoring partnership which could include industrial placements, international Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, where graduates are placed within a company to boost output, and ways of working with new technology.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed last year between the Punjab Government’s Education Secretary and the University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Caroline Gipps. The aim is to increase educational opportunities and training.

Professor Gipps was part of a delegation from Wolverhampton who visited the Punjab as part of the Wolverhampton India Project, promoting links for education, sport and trade.

Jo Gittens, Director, International, at the University said: “We are looking at ways of working closely with universities in the Punjab and are very much looking forward to welcoming our visitors.

“We believe there will be some very interesting opportunities ahead such as collaborative working and exchange programmes which will be of mutual benefit.”

The University already has a successful office in New Delhi, which has strengthened its links in India, and its strongest recruitment area in the country is the Punjab. An office was also recently opened in Bangalore to service South India.
