Photographer shortlisted for award

14/05/2008
Justyna Ptak, a first year BA (Hons) Photography student, had her work short-listed and selected for the event, which takes place at the Shire Hall Gallery in Stafford from May 17 to July 13 2008.

Justyna’s work is now recommended for a series of prizes of up to £1000.

Senior Lecturer Photography, Peter Day, said: “Justyna’s work deals with making the ordinary extraordinary. She does this by creating images in Wolverhampton city centre locations that would not normally be considered photogenic and adds elements that make them humorous or absurd.

“The piece shortlisted has living sculptures added to ordinary environments, with limbs and arms jutting into the photographic frame. The bodies form temporary and improvised sculptures, making the city a living artscape that can be recreated.

“I would like to take this opportunity to formally congratulate Justyna on behalf of the University of Wolverhampton and wish her every success with the prize.”
