20/02/2017

Judo stars at the University of Wolverhampton are celebrating after scooping a haul of gold medals at a national sports competition.

Both the men’s and women’s judo teams won gold at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) National Finals in Sheffield this weekend.

Individual team members added to the gold rush, with Acelya Toprak winning the women’s under 57kg category while Ebony Drysdale-Daley topped the table in the women’s under 70kg contest.

Other successes included Harkirat Sekhon, who won silver in the women’s under 48kg competition, and Ben Attwood who also clinched silver in the men’s under 66kg category.

Dave Elmore, Judo Head coach said: “The University has invested heavily in judo as one of three focus sports at the University which also includes women's football and basketball. The players achieved great success with help via the University’s sports scholarship programme and the associated support services such as strength and conditioning, Physio and world class facilities. This really has been an outstanding team effort!”
