Climate change project puts energy into saving money for business

26/04/2017

The University of Wolverhampton's BECCI project is offering free energy assessments to eligible SMEs with appropriate premises in the Black Country Region.

The BECCI Project (Built Environment Climate Change Innovations) benefits Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Black Country and Marches LEP areas of the West Midlands, by providing free support in the development of products and services that reduce carbon usage.

This project is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund until December 2018 to promote sustainable economic growth.

Neil Young, BECCI Project Manager at the University of Wolverhampton, said: “Research suggests that significantly reducing drafts in buildings could save 30% off heating bills.

“Many smaller businesses operate from older premises where the common problems are air leaks – sometimes around the light fittings or under the skirting. Our free energy assessment will pinpoint problems that need to be addressed, helping companies to identify areas where they can save costs.”

BECCI helps businesses develop new or improved energy efficient products, engages with housing providers in the region to support the use of more green products and gives SMEs access to the latest information and knowledge on low carbon technologies.
