Students get an early introduction to networking at business breakfast event

University of Wolverhampton students from the School of Architecture and Built Environment got an early introduction to networking at a business breakfast event recently.

50 students from a range of subject areas including Building Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction and the Built Environment, Construction Management and Quantity Surveying visited the Networking: Meet the Employer event where staff from Carillion, Keepmoat, Rider Levett Bucknall, Wolverhampton Homes and United Living were on hand to discuss placements, summer interns and graduate positions.

Construction and Built Environment attended a Breakfast Networking Event to meet and engage with employers.

Billie-Jo Taylor, on an Industrial Placement with Keepmoat, said: “I was offered a trainee site manager role with Keepmoat and, whilst it’s an extra year of learning, it was the right decision because I gained a lot of experience during that time.  It was well worth taking a placement year and I’m really pleased that I got a job at the end of the year.”

Nigel Mason, Managing Partner at Rider Levett Bucknall, said:  “We are really keen for our relationship with the University to continue.  We are currently working with a lot of keen, hardworking and conscientious students who are still studying – as well as some alumni – and they are great assets to our business.”

Paul Hampton, Head of Built Environment in the School of Architecture and Built Environment, said:  “Our connections with businesses locally, nationally and internationally offer our students a wide range of opportunities from placements through to internships as well as Higher Apprenticeships. The networking event was very successful with some students getting interviews and securing jobs actually on the day.”
