Musical Theatre students go on tour with celebrated international singer

Four University of Wolverhampton musical theatre degree students were chosen to be part of a choir touring with international recording star, Josh Groban, recently.

Josh Groban is an American singer, songwriter, actor, and record producer. His first four solo albums have been certified multi-platinum, and he was charted in 2007 as the number-one best- selling artist in the United States selling over 25 million records worldwide.

Second year students, Joshua Barden and Roslyn Lloyd and third year students, Adam Riglar and Amy Evans, auditioned for the choir to appear alongside Josh Groban on his national tour to promote his new album, Stages. The students are studying for their degrees at the University’s Walsall Campus.

Four students auditioned to be part of a choir supporting international singer Josh Groban on tour.

Sarah Browne, Principal Lecturer and Head of Music at the University of Wolverhampton, said: “This was the opportunity of a lifetime for our students. For students to be successful in getting valuable work experience of this nature on such a high profile platform whilst studying on their undergraduate degree program is quite an achievement!

“Performing musical theatre with an international recording superstar will not only look fantastic on their CVs, it will have given them a real insight into the hard work that goes into touring as well as experiencing being an integral part of the music industry.”

Amy Evans, one of the successful students, said: “This was such an amazing opportunity that Sarah, the University and Birmingham Institute of Theatre Arts Choir has provided for us. It is a once in a life time experience that is unforgettable. Training at the university has prepared me for the challenging task of learning close choral harmonies and it has definitely provided me with the confidence to continue to perform professionally in the future.”

Richard Skilbeck, Vocal Coach at the University and part of the organising team, said: “The Musical Theatre students from the University of Wolverhampton were amazing both in rehearsals and in the show. They sang brilliantly and their work ethic really made an impact on some of the younger members of the choir. They were very enthusiastic about University life and that’s a great credit to the department.”
