Inspectors praise University academy

An academy which is part of an educational trust led by the University of Wolverhampton has been praised by OFSTED.

Woodhouse Primary Academy in Quinton, Birmingham, is managed by the Education Central Multi-Academy Trust (ECMAT), University of Wolverhampton.

ECMAT works with schools to improve achievements and attainment and is an approved Department for Education academy sponsor.

OSTED inspectors visited Woodhouse Primary Academy in July and graded it as good across all areas, with an outstanding for the behaviour and safety of pupils.

An official report stated: “Since opening the Academy, senior leaders, directors and advisory members have been exceptionally effective in creating an environment in which pupils become effective learners and thrive in their personal development.”

Teaching was said to be good and children were achieving well in reading, writing and mathematics. The quality of teaching and pupils’ progress was also said to have improved quickly since the academy had opened.

Pupils were praised for behaving exceptionally well and for their polite and courteous attitudes.

Inspectors noted that the academy trust and advisory board kept very close contact with senior leaders and played a central role in planning for its development and improvement.

Professor Sir Geoff Hampton, Chief Executive of the University’s Education Central, said: “We work with schools and communities to help them improve standards and to raise their aspirations and are delighted that Woodhouse Primary Academy has received a positive outcome from OFSTED.

“Staff, pupils and parents have all played a vital role in achieving this grading.”

Head Teacher Pam Willets said: “It has been a privilege to lead Woodhouse from Special Measures to good in less than 2 years. The school community is fantastic and the children are amazing learners. We will continue to improve on our previous best because we all wholeheartedly ‘Dream, Believe, Inspire, Achieve’.”
 
“We are very proud of the pupils’ achievements and are exceptionally pleased that all the hard work that has been put in over the past two years has brought about such fantastic change. We will now work just as hard to maintain these high standards.” Woodhouse staff and the Local Advisory Board added.
