New University Centre opens up to Telford public for fun day

15/05/2015

A community day is being held this weekend to showcase what the new University Centre Telford has to offer.

The centre is based on the top floor of Southwater One and is run by the University of Wolverhampton in partnership with Telford College of Arts and Technology (TCAT).

It opened its doors for the first time in April and on Saturday (May 16) between 10am and 3pm people are being invited to a community day to find out more.

Lots of family activities are being offered including face painting, craft, a climbing wall, inflatable football pitch and workshops on literature and science.

Visitors can also find out about the range of courses being offered at the centre from August 2015. These include modules in specific subject areas, short courses and professional development programmes.

Subjects such as business and events management, criminology and health and social care are being offered as well as introductions to literature, poetry and philosophy.

The centre will also provide support for local businesses through Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) courses and professional advice and support for existing and new start-ups.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Access and Lifelong Learning, Jackie Dunne, said: “We’re really excited about this new offer in the centre of Telford at the heart of the Southwater development.

“We hope lots of people will come along to see what we have to offer and also share in some of the fun activities that are being put on.

“Whether you are thinking about what you want to do when you leave school or you’re a late comer to education or want to develop your skills further we have a range of options available.”

The centre is open for enquiries Monday to Friday between 9am to 5pm.
