12/09/2014

Punjabi Wolves Charity cycling war Arun Singh, Compliance Support Assistant at the University’s Project Support Office has cycled over 300 miles, through three countries, in three days with the Punjabi Wolves Supporters Group.

The charity cycle commemorates the First World War while raising money for the following charities; British Heart Foundation, Promise Dreams, Multiple sclerosis, Compton Hospice and Delete Blood Cancer.

On top of raising money for five incredible charities the cycle also commemorated the anniversary of World War 1.

The challenge began at The Molineux in Wolverhampton on September 4 and finished in Ypres, in Belgium on September 6.

Arun, from Wolverhampton stated that he had always wanted to get involved in raising money for charity and was currently seeking opportunities to do so for next year.

When seeking for charity organisations, Andy Sahota, Event Organiser of the charity cycle informed Arun about the upcoming bike challenge just two weeks down the line.

Arun said: “I was shocked I was being asked to ride 300 miles in 3 days with no training!

“I don’t even own a bike; I had to borrow one from a friend. I thought about the people who I would be helping and the lives I would be making a difference to and decided to take up the challenge.”

Arun Singh has currently raised over £600 for the charities and still aiming to raise a total of £1000.

Arun, former student of the University of Wolverhampton Business School said: “The best experience of the cycle was knowing the money I was raising will be used for great causes and recognising the soldiers who gave their lives so we could live the lives we are living today.

“Since I have returned from the cycle, people have told me that they would like get involved in similar charitable events.

“Knowing that we have inspired people to want to achieve awareness and raise money for charity is a great result in itself!”

The 25-year-old states that he aims to continue to participate in more charitable opportunities and has already spoken to the Punjabi Wolves Supporters Group regarding next year’s bike ride.
