Invitation to University’s First World War Lecture

Professor Brian Bond, from King’s College London, will deliver a lecture based on his forthcoming book Britain's Two World Wars against Germany: Myth, Memory and the Distortions of Hindsight (Cambridge, 2014) at the University’s City Campus.

The free public lecture 'Britain's two world wars against Germany: A New Perspective' will take place on October 1 in  the University’s Main Lecture Theatre and will run from 5.30pm until 7.00pm.

Professor Bond, one of world’s leading military historians and a founder of the revisionist school of British First World War history, challenges received wisdom about the First World War, arguing that in a number of important respects Britain was more successful in 1914-18 than in 1939-1945.

Professor Gary Sheffield, Chair of War studies at the University of Wolverhampton said: “Brian Bond is one of Britain's most distinguished military historians and it is a great privilege to welcome him here to speak at the University of Wolverhampton.

“Having seen an advance copy of his new book we can expect a provocative and authoritative take on Britain's role in the two world wars.” 

Brian Bond is attending the University in collaboration with the Western Front Association (WFA) First World War Centenary lecture series.

The WFA have funded a grant to the University to host a series of public lectures, which will consist of three lectures a year and runs until 2018. All lectures are open to anyone with an interest in the First World War.

The lectures have attracted leading academic speakers from within the UK and overseas including academics from Oxford University and the US Army War College to the University of Wolverhampton. The speakers for 2015 will be announced shortly.
