Drive to encourage former nurses back into practice

A national recruitment campaign is under way to encourage people back into the profession to help ease the shortage of nurses.

The Return to Nursing Practice course at the University enables qualified nurses to meet the requirements to re-register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) following a break in practice.

Health Education West Midlands (HEWM) and Health Education England (HEE) are providing funding for students on the course between October 2014 and the end of March 2015, and additional financial support toward travel, childcare and book costs.

‘Come back…to nursing’  provides an excellent opportunity for those considering returning, and the  University of Wolverhampton is running three intakes of the course at its Walsall Campus during this time to meet demand.

Jackie Mitchell, Return to Nursing Practice Course Leader, said:“Nursing is an exciting and developing profession that students will have previously enjoyed, and this course will provide a broad-based update on essential skills and theory that will allow them to return to their career in nursing.
 
“Providing a high standard of care is paramount, and this course enables nurses to regain confidence, ensuring their practice is up to date and their knowledge is evidence based.”

The course is aimed at those who have previously been a Registered Nurse on any part of the current or former Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Register, and will enable them to re-register and return to nursing practice.
 
The course is open to nurses who have previously been registered within the NMC, been out of practice for some time, or have had a career break. There is no upper age limit for applicants.
