University supports Academy in new online degree

The Academy of Music and Sound has announced the UK’s first online ‘blended learning’ degree in Performance Industries.

The Music Instrument Retail Apprenticeship Scheme (MIRTAS) staff will be given the chance to get involved in extending their qualifications.

Through a long-term partnership with the University of Wolverhampton, the Academy of Music and Sound has developed the online degree programme known as AMBA (Academy of Music BA), which will begin in September 2014.

The online course includes a  Foundation Degree that can be studied on a part-time basis over three years and a Bachelor of Arts ‘top up’ degree that can also be studied part-time over 18 months.

The aim is to provide students with the opportunity to study towards a degree-level qualification while working full-time in their profession.

Dr John Pymm, the University’s Dean of the Faculty of Arts said: “The partnership between the University and the Academy of Music and Sound has been outstanding.  

“Over the past six years, we have been at the forefront of developments between Higher Education and the music business and the courses we’ve developed are of national significance.  

“We have the highest regard for the professional work of our partners at the Academy.”

Since 2008, the University has worked with the Academy of Music and Sound delivering a number of AMS teaching centres across the UK including; Birmingham, Southampton, Exeter, Swindon, Gateshead, Glasgow, and Edinburgh.

The University of Wolverhampton is known as the ‘University of Opportunity’ as it provides such educational opportunities to a number of students across the UK.
