Student satisfaction remains high

The tenth National Student Survey (NSS) asks students all over the country what they think of their University and the services it provides.

This year’s survey revealed that 80% of students at the University responded they were satisfied.

Learning resources were rated highly, with 86% of students reporting they were satisfied with the resources, which include IT and library facilities, compared to a national average of 85%.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Geoff Layer, said: “We’re pleased that a high number of our students are satisfied, but we’re disappointed that the level has declined from last year’s all-time high rating.

“We work closely with our Students’ Union to ensure the facilities we provide meet the needs of today’s students and we continue to listen to the ways we can further improve the learning and social experience.

“Our £21 million Science Centre is nearing completion, with the first phase opening in October, and we are also creating a new £18 million Business School which will open in September 2015. These exciting new developments will further enhance the learning and teaching environment.

 “We’re also proud that 94% of our 2013 graduates were in employment or further study six months after completing their studies with us, boosting the regional economy and highlighting the significant benefits of higher education and the high esteem University of Wolverhampton qualifications are held in by employers.”

University of Wolverhampton Students’ Union President, Zoe Harrison, said: “We will continue to work with the University as a critical friend to ensure that satisfaction rates improve over the coming years.”

The survey highlights a number of high scoring subject areas, including event and venue management; childhood, family and education studies; computer science (software engineering); applied biological sciences; history and war studies; midwifery; drama and mathematics.

The NSS is an annual census of students in the final year of a course leading to undergraduate credits or qualifications across the UK.
