Student Writer Wins Story Competition

28/04/2014

Jason Anson, who studies Creative and Professional writing, is the winner of online magazine ‘MY student style’ short story competition.

‘A Smoked Easter Ham’ was one of the top five and most read entry resulting in his work being shortlisted and winning the competition.

The Easter story follows a character named ‘George’ as he travels to visit his family. Throughout the story, cigarette smoking is frequently mentioned to make awareness of the harm smoking can cause.

Jason also writes about typical Easter traditions such as lent and encourages family values.

Jo Booth, owner of ‘MY Student Style’ said:  “We loved Jason’s original take on Easter, and are so pleased with how many talented writing students want to get involved with our Creative Writing section which is open to all UK students.”

Jason said: “Writing a story that deals with the theme of Easter was initially somewhat difficult, I juggled with a few ideas until I found one I liked.”

“The competition was very exciting, I was clearly up against competent writers of which I read and enjoyed their stories.

“I’d like to thank ‘MY Student Style’ for this opportunity and thank everyone who read and shared my story.”

Jason was extremely pleased with winning the competition, mentioning that getting your own work published is one of the biggest battles when it comes to being a writer.
