Fundraising students celebrated for £27,000 charity boost

Wolverhampton Racecourse hosted a fundraising showcase of the group’s activities last week.

The students, from The Wolverhampton Business School, take on fundraising activities as part of an entrepreneurial, creativity and innovation module. This is the fourth run of this module and students have raised a staggering £100,000 in that time.

For the past few months, they have worked closely with Compton Hospice, Acorns Children’s Hospice, Leonard Cheshire Disability and the Steve Bull Foundation to raise as much money as possible.

They took part in spinathons, sponsored tattoos, a fashion show, Bollywood evening, sponsored dog walking, football tournaments, family fun days and many more activities.

“It was absolutely brilliant,” said Steve Bull.

Nick Holzherr, BBC’s The Apprentice, made an appearance at the showcase and offered the young entrepreneurs the benefits of his experience from working on the show.

Prizes were awarded for the highest total raised: £11,000 for Compton Hospice, presented by John Philips, Regional Chair of the Institute of Directors. Richard Hilton of Fabweld Steel Ltd, presented a Creativity Award sponsored by the company.

Eileen Hammond, fellow and former Honorary Secretary of the Institute of Fundraising, said: “It's hard to say who were more inspired by the event - the students or the guests. We were most impressed with what the students had achieved, particularly in such a short space of time.”
