Hub hosts international piano competition

A prestigious piano competition which has attracted entries from education institutions around the world is being held at the University of Wolverhampton.

The Performance Hub at the University’s Walsall Campus will host the Naim Audio Lola Perrin Piano Competition on Thursday, 10 May 2012 at 7pm.

Eight participants from as far afield as China who are currently studying in Walsall will perform.

The evening will round off with performances by composer and Head of Music at Wolverhampton Kevin Stannard, Concert Pianist and Head of Piano Mikael Petterson and composer and pianist Lola Perrin who will also present the prizes.

The competition opened this academic year and is aimed at music learning centres around the world.

Entries have been received from institutions in the UK and USA.

The initiative is a product of Naim Audio's partnership with composer and pianist Lola Perrin, and was held for the first time at the London Centre of Contemporary Music on April 13 2012.

Paul Stephenson, Managing Director of Naim Audio, presented the prizes and spoke at the event about how Naim Audio promotes music at grass roots level through its association with a variety of independent musicians and through Naim's independent music label.

Lola Perrin is an American composer who has lived in the UK since childhood and describes her sound as Rave Music for Butterflies. She is also a pianist, publisher, contributor to International Piano magazine, Artist in Residence at Naim Audio, and Composer/Teacher in Residence at Markson Pianos.
