Over 20 years of support for Wolverhampton Biomedical Science students

07/11/2011

This year’s award represents a 22 year association between the Paycare Charity Trust and the University.

First year winning student, Muhammad Adeeb, from Telford, and second year winning student, Ben Levey, from Birmingham, will each receive a cheque from Paycare Charity Trust chair, David Clegg.

Trustees of Wolverhampton-based Paycare Charity Trust annually award prizes to the highest achieving student in the first and second years of Biomedical Science undergraduate study programmes at the University’s School of Applied Sciences.

The prize giving ceremony will take place on Wednesday, 9 November 2011 at 12pm in the Council Room at the University of Wolverhampton, Wulfruna Street, Wolverhampton.

Dr Ruth Shiner, Head of Biomedical Science & Physiology Department at the University, said: “The University is extremely appreciative of the Award Scheme, which is now in its 22nd year. The award encourages students to strive for excellence in their chosen subject and assists in reducing the financial burden associated with university study.

“University staff are very proud of the outstanding academic achievements of Muhammad and Ben, who were nominated for the Paycare Charity Trust Prize, and the hearty congratulations of all their tutors is offered to both students.”

The BSc (Hons) degree in Biomedical Science attracts many students from the local area and provides education and training for employment in hospital and medical research laboratories. Many graduates then go on to have careers as Biomedical Scientists undertaking diagnostic tests in local hospitals, thus contributing to healthcare in the region. The School of Applied Sciences staff said they would like to offer sincere thanks to the Trust for their support and encouragement over the last 22 years and they look forward to continuing this successful relationship in the future.
