New agreement for health staff and students

22/04/2010

Progression Agreements enable students at colleges in the region and experienced health employees to move onto recognised higher education qualifications with the University.

Three new agreements were signed by the University’s School of Health and Wellbeing on Wednesday, 21 April 2010.

Two agreements were signed with several NHS Trusts to enable experienced staff from stroke and neo-natal departments to work towards University qualifications. The third agreement was signed with 12 local colleges for students on health related courses.

The agreements were developed with two regional Lifelong Learning Networks (LLN), the Birmingham, Black Country and Solihull LLN and the Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin LLN.

Professor Linda Lang, Dean of the School of Health and Wellbeing at the University, signed the agreement with the two LLN directors, NHS representatives and the colleges.

She said: “The School of Health and Wellbeing celebrates the continuing development of Progression Agreements with our partner schools and colleges. This is important to us as it recognises the quality of the education provided by our partner organisations, and helps students to make informed and confident choices about their future direction in higher education.”

The University of Wolverhampton has a series of agreements across a variety of other subject areas. Many vocational courses, such as BTECS and NVQs, have been matched with higher education courses offered across the University.

The agreements clearly outline students’ progression options from the course they are studying. If they meet the entry requirements, most Progression Agreements guarantee them a place on a University course, and other agreements provide them with an interview, conditional place or exemption from part of a degree.

This work has been supported by the two regional LLNs, which focus on progression into and through vocational education.
