Legal eagles off to flying start

21/12/2009

Third year students Julia Mathurin and Stephen Evans have reached the quarter finals of a national mock court competition.

The LLB (Hons) students fought off tough competition from the University of Birmingham in the second round of the ICLR National Mooting Competition.

The mock court case, or ‘moot’, was held at the University of Wolverhampton and involved the two teams undertaking a mock criminal law appeal case on murder, insanity and provocation.

Helen Barker, Senior Lecturer in Law, said: "Taking part in mooting competitions, especially external competitions at national level, is a wonderful way for students to develop their legal research skills and advocacy skills. Getting through to the quarter finals of this competition is an excellent achievement for the mooters themselves and for the University of Wolverhampton."

Julia and Stephen will go on to represent the University in the quarter finals in January.
