Launch of ginger exhibition

01/09/2008

David Rann, who is studying a MA in Fine Art at the School of Art & Design, had a huge response after he launched an appeal for ginger, titian and auburn haired volunteers to come forward for his show.

David, from Dudley, will launch the exhibition of portraits from the “Melanocortin-1 Receptor” series on Wednesday, 3 September 2008 at the Quadrant Lounge in Lichfield Street, Wolverhampton, from 7.30pm. A selection of the photographs will be on display at the Quadrant Lounge until the end of September.

The 43-year-old says: “Some scientists suggest red hair might be extinct within a century. I thought it was time we celebrated the beauty of this historically much-maligned variant of human colouration.

“The “Melanocortin-1 Receptor” series is a study of the physical traits associated with the so-called “ginger gene”. As suggested by one of the participants, this launch event will be called “Gingerfest”.

“Ginger-themed refreshments will be available and admission to the event is free, even to non-redheads. However, participants and other redheads are especially welcome.”

It will also be possible to preview/order copies of David’s book “MC1R”, which includes all of the portraits from the series.
