Public art under the spotlight

01/05/2008

Professor Tim Collins, from the School of Art & Design, will present his talk, Post industrial ecologies and public art, on Wednesday, 7 May, 2008.Public art under the spotlight

Prof Collins is an artist and a Professor of Art, Society and Environment.

He said: “The term ‘public art’ is both clear and problematic; it seems open-ended denoting work that appears in the public realm, yet also describes institutionalised and standardised municipal public art initiatives.

“My general interest is in the role that the artist can play in creative and radical forms of democracy. The purpose of the public lecture is to examine the role of art in transforming contemporary social and environmental practices.”

The lecture will take place in the Millennium City Building on the City Campus at 6pm. For details, visit www.wlv.ac.uk/publiclecture or call the Graduate School on 01902 323344.
