Know Your Rubbish

The university has recently changed it's waste service provider and these pages are under development

What does DMR mean?

DMR stands for DRY MIXED RECYCLING. It is a term used to separate food and landfill waste out from other waste that can be recycled.

Types of DMR waste are

  • Drinks cans - aluminium and steel are fine
  • Plastics – clean milk bottles, water bottles, shower gel / shampoo containers, cleaning product containers
  • Cardboard – clean cardboard packaging with no plastic or metallic content
  • Paper  - small quantities, because ideally you should use the paper recycling waste bin
  • Steel cans – food tins as long as they are washed
  • Glass – small amount of glass, but if broken for safety wrap in paper

ANYTHING that is food related; e.g. tea bags, banana skins, sandwich crusts need to go into the general waste bin

ANYTHING  that doesn’t logically fit into the categories above; e.g. polystyrene take away containers, broken umbrellas, non-cardboard coffee cups, please put into the general waste bin

PLEASE NOTE : COFFEE CUPS FROM THE RETAIL OUTLETS ON CAMPUS ARE NOT CURRENTLY RECYCLACBLE. THEY MUST GO INTO GENERAL WASTE
