Validation, Accreditation, Approval & Deletion

The Process

The Quality and Collboration Unit (QCU) takes a risk based approach to validation, approval, accreditation and deletion. The different levels of risk are managed by processes requiring progressively higher level of external input, more scrutiny by the Validating Committee, approval to proceed by the Offices of the Vice Chancellor and the involvement of other departments of the University such as the International Centre. This process includes; the approval of existing provision, approval or validation of provision for delivery with a collaborative partner or PSRB, validation of new provision, the accreditation of externally delivered provision and the deletion of provision

Timeline & Key Dates

Validation &  Approval (VA) - Undergraduate, Postgraduate & Course Title Change

  • 30th November 2017:

Submission of ADPs to the Planning Unit.

  • 31st December 2017:

Approval of ADPs by Deputy Vice Chancellor and RAVSC.

  • September 2017 - 31st May 2018:

i. VA documentation drafted and developed prior to submission to the Faculty Academic Enhancement Committee (FAEC).

ii. VA documentation formally reviewed by FAEC and any amendments to be made by proposing team(s).

  • 31st May 2018:

VA activity closed out.

  • June 2018 – August 2019:

Publication, marketing and active recruitment of courses.

  • 1st September 2019:

VA courses delivered.

 

Validation & Approval (VA) - Collaborative

  • Submission of ADPs to the Planning Unit.

  • Approval of ADPs by Deputy Vice Chancellor and RAVSC.

  • VA documentation drafted and developed prior to the submission to Faculty Academic Enhancement Committee (FAEC).

  • VA documentation formally reviewed by FAEC and any amendments to be made by proposing team(s).

  • 3 months prior to delivery: VA activity close out.

  • Publication, marketing and active recruitment of courses.

  • VA courses delivered.


Please note that any activity which involves involves a collaborative partner should be closed out no later than 3 months prior to first delivery.

 

Validation & Approval (VA) - Commissioned
  • Submission of ADPs to the Planning Unit.
  • Approval of ADPs by Deputy Vice Chancellor and RAVSC.
  • VA documentation drafted and developed prior to submission to Faculty Academic Enhancement Committee (FAEC).
  • VA documentation formally reviewed by FAEC and any amendments to be made by proposing team(s).
  • 6 weeks prior to delivery: VA activity closed out.
  • Publication, marketing and active recruitment of courses.
  • VA courses delivered.

 

Please note that any activity which is commissioned should be closed out no later than 6 weeks prior to first delivery.

 

Deletion of Provision

Deletion of existing provision may occur throughout the year and is not dictated by some of the deadlines noted in Part A. However, the following are indicative timescales for this process.

  • Stage 1: Submission of Academic Deletion Plan to the Planning Unit.

  • Stage 2: Consideration of Academic Deletion Plan by critical readers and approval by DVC & RAVSC.

  • Stage 3: Deletion process delegated to FAEC for monitoring and action, to include:

      i. Initial Planning Meeting (if necessary).

     ii. Agreement of a formal exit strategy.

    iii. Circulation of a Deletion Memo.

    iv. Regular reporting to FAEC until all students have completed.
