Vice-Chancellor Professor Caroline Gipps

Professor Gipps joined the University on 17 October 2005.  For the previous six years she was Deputy Vice Chancellor at Kingston University, in Surrey, and prior to that was Professor of Education and Dean of Research at the Institute of Education in London.

She has a distinguished track record in higher education and is an expert on educational assessment and learning.

Professor Gipps studied psychology at the University of Bristol before completing an MSc and PhD in psychology of education at the Institute of Education.  Her career has included spells as a junior school teacher and also a teaching assistant at the University of British Columbia before joining the Institute of Education (IOE), where as Dean of Research she achieved a five-star grading for the IOE in the Research Assessment Exercise in 1986.

Caroline Gipps is a passionate advocate for the widening participation agenda and is the University of Wolverhampton’s first female Vice-Chancellor.
