At the School of Sport, Performing Arts and Leisure, we are dedicated to providing an excellent work-related education, and work closely with local, national and international bodies in all sectors to achieve this.
We have links with regional bodies including Advantage West Midlands, Fitness First, the Black Country Tourism Consortium and Telford and Shropshire Marketing Partnership.
In addition, we regularly undertake work for a number of local authorities including Wolverhampton City Council, Lichfield City Council and Walsall MBC.
At a national level, strong links exist with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (BASES), the Tourism Society, the Tourism Management Institute and the British Institute of Innkeeping.
We also works closely with the Performing Arts Learning and Teaching Innovation Network and the Hospitality, Leisure, Sport and Tourism Learning and Teaching Support Network.
At an international level, we maintain links with the Australian Institute of Sport and the Sports Science Institute of South Africa, together with a number of universities and colleges in China, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Spain.
EU-funded initiatives have also included economic development work in the former Soviet state of Kyrgyzstan. In addition, Erasmus links provide our students with an opportunity to study in Malta, Holland and other European countries.
The courses use industry, educational, coaching and community links to provide experiential learning in the UK and overseas.
At a local level, we work with a number of local authorities and community organisations, full use is also made of Walsall’s award winning Art Gallery and the University owned and operated Arena Theatre.
Links also exist with the National Exhibition Centre and various professional bodies including Sport England, the British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (BASES) and the Tourism Management Institute (TMI).
