The Research Institute in Healthcare Science (RIHS) is a cross-school initiative involving the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the School of Health and Wellbeing and the School of Sports, Performing Arts and Leisure.
It supports interdisciplinary research with appropriate critical mass, providing a platform for the development and promotion of healthcare science research activities.
At present there are eight research groups involving more than 25 members of the academic and technical staff, and this provides an excellent environment for nearly 50 research students undertaking research on either a part-time or full-time basis. This research community is set to grow significantly over the next few years.
There is a distinctive emphasis trying to ensure that the findings of academic research are quickly and effectively translated into clinical practice. And there is close collaboration with local NHS Trusts including the National Cancer Research Institute-funded Black Country Cancer Research Network.
Research is divided into several research groups. There are also two further research groups in development; one in applied research in health policy evaluation and practice, and one in clinical physiology.
