This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the 1st gay pride held in July 1972 in Britain- led by the Gay Liberation Front (GLF).
In this highly symbolic year the city is hosting its 1st Wolverhampton and Black Country Pride on 29 July 2012 (organised by the LGBT Network Wolverhampton) and we are having Peter Tatchell, who was a member of the GLF marching with us.
As a joint initiative, the Student LGBT + Society and the Staff Network of the University of Wolverhampton will be marching together in solidarity to celebrate Pride as well as demanding equality.
We will be setting off at 11am from Market Square, Wolverhampton, walking a 1 mile route through the City Centre, ending back at Market Square. We have a couple of bands with lots of LGBT and non LGBT organisations.
The main area in School Street and Fold Street will be officially opened by The Mayor, Mrs Mills at 12.30pm and those participating the march do not need to buy a ticket to get in the gated area.
If you would like to march with us please contact Martin: (M.A.Evans@wlv.ac.uk ) or Pliny (pliny@wlv.ac.uk) and please make sure you are at the Market Square by 10.25am.
