Steve is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Sport, Performing Arts and Leisure. He is the Undergraduate Course Leader for BA (hons) Sport Management BA (hons) Event and Venue Management BA (hons) Tourism Management BA (hons) International Hospitality Management in the UK and the BA (hons) Sport Management at Asia Pacific School of Sport and Business in Singapore.
Steve is a former Principal Officer for Wolverhampton City Council where he gained experience in operational management on a range of leisure venues. Steve’s Master’s degree is in Business administration.
Steve teaches across the Leisure Industries disciplines: with a primary expertise and interest in Sport and Event management. This subject expertise is delivered in both UK and the South East Asia industries.
Steve has developed expertise in the Employability III consultancy project module through his links with the local leisure industry. This engages students in working directly with the leisure industry employers to resolve particularly problems facing their organisation.
More recently Steve has taught on four modules delivered in Singapore as part of the departments pioneering venture into Trans national Delivery.
Steve’s primary role for 2011-2 is the Undergraduate Course Leader for all Leisure Industry programmes. Steve represents the department on a number of cross school committees which include work with the Positive Working Environment group; TNE operations team, and the Work based Learning forum.
Steve’s research interests range from the study of pedagogic external learning environments and Student employability within the HE curriculum, through to subject expertise in event operations and Community Sport. Areas include strategies to address social exclusion through sport and physical activity, and the importance of urban allotments in achieving wider social benefits.
Current work involves an investigation into sports development/coaching to assess the level of integration of developmental assets.
