In 2010 our aim was to encourage everyone to take part in The Big Swap, and swap their usual purchases for Fairtrade alternatives. Focusing on tea we ran a number of activities including a Fairtrade Five-a-side Football Tournament, guest seminar by Cadburys and also taste tests across the University's campuses encouraging staff and students to see if they could tell the difference between regular and Fairtrade tea.
It may be a small thing to change your chosen tea brand for Fairtrade - but it can make a huge difference to the communities that rely on selling tea to support their families.
During 2010 we fought off tough competition to clinch a top award for our commitment to Fairtrade, being named runner-up in the Outstanding Achievement category of the Fairtrade Fortnight 2010 Awards.
Jon Elsmore (Dean of Students) and Helen Robinson (Marketing Manager) collecting the award at the annual Fairtrade Supporter Conference, along with £400 to go towards the Fairtrade steering group’s future activities.
