Olympic athlete to visit Uni

 

The former international athlete and television presenter will visit Wolverhampton on Wednesday, 11 February 2009.

 

The seminar, titled Going for Gold, is presented by the National College for School Leadership (NCSL) in partnership with the University of Wolverhampton, as part of the Black Country Challenge programme. The event will take place at Wolverhampton Science Park, from 4.30pm.

 

Kriss Akabusi is famous for his achievements in athletics, where his greatest individual triumph was his Gold Medal in the 1990 European Championships. His other successes included three Olympic medals, and success at the World and Commonwealth championships. He is possibly best remembered for helping the British team to clinch the Gold medal in the 4x400 metre relay at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo.

 

Kriss went on to present BBC’s Record Breakers, and in recent years he has achieved national prominence for his work as a motivational public speaker. He was made an MBE in 1992 in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

 

Professor Sir Geoff Hampton, Pro Vice Chancellor (Education Partnerships) and Chief Adviser for the Black Country Challenge, said: “Kriss is a genuine inspiration as he draws upon his experiences in the armed forces, athletics and the media to provide a personal viewpoint upon leadership. He is an entertaining and engaging presenter who will provide a real stimulus for those fortunate enough to be in the audience.”

 

The Inspirational Leadership event is open to school, college and University staff and invited guests.
