Creative event at Uni

 

The School of Art & Design hosted the Creative Pathways Symposium on Friday, 22 August 2008.

 

The event complemented the international Glass Routes exhibition at Bilston Craft Gallery and focused on how artists navigate the creative process between materials, process, creativity, style, function and context.

 

The symposium, organised in collaboration with Wolverhampton Arts and Museums, was held at the School of Art Design, MK Building, off the Wolverhampton Ring Road, and at the Bilston Craft Gallery.

 

Organiser Stuart Garfoot said: “Based on the idea that we all have very different methods for the development of our creativity and the generation of new ideas, this one day symposium looks at case studies of individual professional makers, designers, and artists in glass.”

 

Speakers included Professor Keith Cummings, Professor of Glass at the University of Wolverhampton; Professor Andrew Brewerton, former Principal at Dartington College of Arts; Professor Donghai Guan, Head of the Glass Studio at Tsinghua University in Beijing; designer, Katy Holford and artist, David Reekie.

 

The Glass Routes exhibition examines the role and impact of Professor Keith Cummings upon glass education in the UK and China. The exhibition is open at Bilston Craft Gallery until November 15, 2008.
