India visit strengthens educational links

 

A Memorandum of Understanding was recently signed between the Punjab Government’s Education Secretary and the University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Caroline Gipps.

 

The aim is to increase educational opportunities and training, particularly in regard to English language skills for teachers in the Punjab.

 

Professor Gipps was part of a delegation from Wolverhampton who visited the Punjab as part of the Wolverhampton India Project, promoting links for education, sport and trade.

 

She visited rural schools and education establishments and discussed the development of future links and exchanges.

 

Professor Gipps said: "The visit was very successful and has enabled the University and its partners to take the Wolverhampton India Project forward. Signing the MOU will lead to some great opportunities for us to link further with the Punjab and develop future work within this region."

 

Another MOU was also signed between the University, Donba College and the Lovely Professional University in the Punjab.

 

This will provide opportunities for student and staff exchanges, progression and recruitment.

 

Jo Gittens, Director, International, at the University of Wolverhampton, also attended the two-day event in India.

 

She said: “The University will be preparing a number of proposals in terms of how we can work with universities in the Punjab. We are very excited by the links and there are a lot of interesting opportunities ahead.”

 

The University already has a successful office in New Delhi, which has strengthened its links in India, and its strongest recruitment area in the country is the Punjab.

 

During the India visit, MOUs were also signed by Wolves for football exchanges and the Chamber of Commerce for trade opportunities.

 

Delegates from the India are due to visit Wolverhampton in the Autumn.
