Top award for University academic

 

Rishma Dattani, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programmes at the University of Wolverhampton Business School, was successful in the Lloyds TSB Central Jewel Awards.

 

Rishma won the Healthcare and Education Excellence Jewel Award and received the award at a ceremony in Birmingham this weekend.

 

Rishma, who is based at the University’s Telford Campus and has worked at the University for 19 years, said she was “stunned” to have won the award.

 

“I was very pleased and I was not expecting to win as I was up against some strong competition.

 

“The University has provided a supporting environment for me and when opportunities have arisen, I have been encouraged by line managers and colleagues to apply. The University recognises hard work and provides an environment that enables people to progress and develop.

 

“I would like to thank my colleagues and also my husband, Sanjay Badiani, who is now a student at the University, and his support has enabled me to juggle the traditional demands of an Asian background and progress in my career.”

 

The award ceremony was attended by Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Geoff Hurd. He said: “Rishma is an inspiration to students and her colleagues and we would like to congratulate her on winning this award, which recognises her significant contribution to education in the West Midlands.”

 

The event, now in its sixth year, is designed to reflect the growing influence of the Asian community on the UK’s culture and economy and bolster the Midlands’ reputation as a hub of Asian talent.
