Teacher training chalks up top marks
The University of Wolverhampton has received top marks
for the standard of its primary school teacher
training.
Ofsted inspectors confirmed the University’s ‘Grade 1:
Outstanding’ for the quality of its management and quality
assurance provision, based on a visit to the School of Education in
the autumn term 2007, from which the final report has just been
released.
The report focused on primary initial teaching training (ITT)
courses, which the University runs in partnership with over 200
schools.
Professor Kit Field, Dean of the School of Education, said:
“We are delighted with the outcome of the Ofsted inspection, which
is testament to the hard work and commitment of our staff and
students.
“Our students receive an excellent standard of teacher
training and this is reflected by the high employment rate for our
graduates.
“What is especially pleasing is that this inspection confirms
the excellent standards achieved over a period of time. The team
achieved similarly high grades in previous inspections and this
demonstrates the ongoing quality of their work.”
The inspectors found key strengths, amongst many others, were
the high employment rates at the end of the course, the recruitment
of well qualified staff who are expert trainers, the quality of the
provision and the internal and external assessment of trainee’s
teaching.
